The carpenter‘s trestle is an ancient and indispensable accessory in any workspace. A well-made pair can serve for a lifetime of use. They typically become a visual history of the work they do, scarred from saws and chisels and splattered with paint and glue. A low-level hard worker.

In my long career as a carpenter and woodworker, I have built dozens of these trestles to suit the purpose at hand. In the US, they are called saw horses or just referred to as horses, hence the choice of Fàkur in Icelandic.

I usually left these behind when a project was over, at times more than one pair, as I could easily build them as needed. My signature technique was to have them light, strong and stackable. I would sometimes hear later that these abandoned horses were fought over by the other project tradesmen and subcontractors.

I often thought to come up with a design that would look good anywhere. Design march 2010 provoked the effort which was displayed in Epal, lightweight, strong and stackable with clean lines, built from hardwood. I have now started a line of desks and tables based on this trestle design, Fàkurline. More to come.
