Global design pioneer Alvar Aalto combined simple design with a craftsman’s expertise to create iconic pieces of home decor that are functional and sculptural. His asymmetrical wave shape for Iittala won the 1937 Paris World Fair and became his creative signature from architecture to glass. Inspired by the thousands of lakes in his native Finnish landscape, each legendary Aalto vase goes through a multi-step process at the Iittala Glass Factory. The crystal is mouthblown then the pieces are hand cut before going through several polishings.
